07-07-11 Social League Recap

Social League runs late! But better late than never!

Running Late. The back end of the week -- any day after Wednesday -- absolutely cruises by. Your progressively less organised scribe suffers further disorganisation as each day passes until it's Monday evening and there's absolutely no hope of filing this recap on time. Still, let's ramble quickly and we can get this out of the way. Watch out for typos and grammar problems!

Irony. It must be at least a bit ironic that all of the captains had responded to the LC with nominations for MVP, MSP and MIP on Thursday morning, but the LC was so lax in passing them along to your faithful scribe that this wasn't written until after the weekend. Loyal readers (should this be capitalised? Make it so!) will know that not having the individual player awards has never stopped the recap from being published.

Your scribe would like to credit the Tour de France for causing the delays in this posting. He has watched almost every bit of every stage which has caused great bags to appear underneath his eyes and a sort of perpetual tiredness. Since Monday is a day of rest, Monday is catch-up day and that's that.

It's tough to say which day has been the best, but it would be tough to top Sunday night's (Melboune time) stage when the Chicken (Michael Rasmussen) absolutely demolished everyone on the bike. Well almost everyone; the road did a pretty good job of taking out Rogers and O'Grady. Anyone wearing a polka dot jersey to SL on Wednesday will be known as the King (or Queen) of the Mountains. Since there are no mountains in Albert Park, this is something of a figurehead role. Like the actual Queen, I suppose.

Games.

  • Healthy Peaches vs ADP
  • ChoiBoy vs Tim Tim Timill

Peaches Returns. SL was excited to see Peaches return to coaching and playing with authoritah. He's coming off a bout of illness that has lasted for what must have been six weeks. According to the official SL calendar, next week will be his last week at SL before he abandons the ship Melbourne for the warmer waters of Japan.

Thus Healthy Peaches took on ADP, which stands for Azerbaijan Democratic Party, Automatic Data Processing and Alpha Delta Phi. Your scibe knew a few members of Alpha Delta Phi -- it's a frat (think Animal House) -- back when he lived in Chicago and would still count at least one of them as a current friend. It was never known as ADP, rather "Alpha Delt." Anyhow, for the purposes of SL, ADP is Alex's team which beat Peaches team by some score that is unknown.

The other game -- ChoiBoy vs Tim Tim Timill -- featured Tall Matt Wood (TMW? Make it so!) playing against a bunch of people shorter than himself. Of course, he gets this every time he plays. The remaining junior players left over from the Junior Mafia of weeks past all played in this game. There was some confusion as to which players went on which teams, but it was all sorted out by end. The final two points were marked with something that looking vaguely like 12 on 12, but your blind scribe suspects his eyes were failing him.

Quote of the Week. "Bring on the Alps" -- Alex, looking forward to the upcoming stages of the Tour.

The individual player awards are as follows.

You'll notice that some of these are blank. If you feel that someone should have won an award, email with any nominations. Feel free to nominate yourself for any awards you feel that you should have won.

Tim Tim Timill. Tim started off as the captain of this team, then he was replaced by Timill. Later in the evening a third Tim-type name (another Tim, to be precise) joined the team. Thus we had Tim and Tim and Timill and the team name practically wrote itself. Excellent.

SOCIAL! Your imbibing scribe will take this opportunity -- just like last week -- to observe that Social League goes to the pub after league finishes. Every Wednesday. So when you're trying to sell someone on social league, make sure you emphasise the social aspects. The pub serves food.

OK, that's about enough of that. See everyone on Wednesday. Don't forget to bring your league dues.

Coming next week. The newest Harry Potter book! What else? See everyone at the Jam Factory Borders books on Saturday morning, 7.00am.

Email with anything that might be of interest.
