Arrive in Melbourne Wednesday at 5am; breeze through customs. Then straight to the internet to file the SL recap. Sleep when you're dead.
Disclaimer. Your lackluster scribe didn't actually attend SL this week. He skipped and spent the night here. Thus this recap won't focus on such trivialities as facts and events as much as on conjectures and hypotheses. In short, he has no clue. Coaching. The extended SL coaching sessions focused on dumping this week. Break and open side dumps were considered; so was the inevitable swing that follows the dump. Peaches continued his unbroken streak of coaching, despite subpar health. His devotion is not unnoticed in this space! Craig, Liz and Nish rounded out the coaching core. Liz worked with the experienced players doing more swinging than dumping (perhaps this is the case? perhaps not?), which is of course to be expected. Craig and Nish worked with the experienced players and new players respectively. Games.
The Rider battle (game 2 above) was easily the best. The Rough Riders rode (roughly, to be sure) all over the Easy Riders for the first few points. Eventually (and in a mellow fashion) the Easy Riders started to play very well. The game ended in a narrow victory for the Rough Riders. Then everyone rode to the pub. Quote of the Week."You guessed Charmaine's e-mail incorrectly." -- Craig, explaining to the coordinator that he was sending emails to the wrong Charmaine. Oops. The individual player awards are as follows. Melbourne Shuffle
St. Kilda Swing
Cash Money Rough Riders
Laid Back Easy Riders
Team J
Team K
You'll notice that all of these are blank. If you feel that someone should have won an award, email with any nominations. Please also mention a team with your nomination since there's no known record of who played on which team. Feel free to nominate yourself for any awards you feel that you should have won. Again, make sure to mention which team you would like to be on. SOCIAL! Your imbibing scribe will take this opportunity -- just like last week -- to observe that Social League goes to the pub after league finishes. Every Wednesday. So when you're trying to sell someone on social league, make sure you emphasise the social aspects. The pub serves food. OK, that's about enough of that. If you've made it this far, you've done very well. See everyone next week (seriously). Don't forget to bring your league dues. Coming next week. Your scribe actually attends SL, but we establish once and for all that there's no relationship between the quality of the recap and knowing anything at all about what happened. Email with anything that might be of interest. |
