Sams Weekly Report #19
Tuesday, 26 August 2008

So the end of the Winter season draws nigh. Or drew nigh, I'm not sure
which. With the excitement of Worlds passing by and the excitement of
the Olympics hovering over us like a large blancmange of nationalistic
jingoism, irritating adverts, and unspoken home truths that countries
ignore like family spats at a Christmas dinner, we also have the final
of Division Two last Monday. (Sorry about that last sentence: I was
momentarily feeling morose.)

As we left it last week, MUCUS had beaten LaTuffff and The Hat Team had
upset Moho. This week saw a game where MUCUS beat the Hat Team 15-9 in
a game that was described as "convincing"

. Personally I'm not
convinced, because I neglected to turn up. Sorry, but the roast chicken
dinner was too good to pass up (take one 2kg free range chicken,
previously employed for soothsaying activities, pat with paper towel to
remove the finger prints, rub with half a lemon, insert both halves of
lemon into the cavity along with chopped garlic, pepper, salt, rosemary
and a knob of butter, cook at 180 degrees for 1.5 hours, save carcass
for stock, and apologise to any vegetarians reading). If anyone has a
better description, please let me know and I'll pass it on in a contrite
manner.

What I will say is a big thanks to Carroll and Katie for coordinating
the Monday night Divisions for the last year or so, and to Carroll for
painting lines on the fields every couple of weeks, even if he never
remembers the brick marks. I know I greatly appreciate the effort
they've put in, so remember to thank them next time you see them. I
know Katie likes flowers; Carroll likes wedgies, he's just that kind of guy.

And so endeth the season. It looks like we are having more of a five
week break, which will take us some time into September: the reason
being to rest the fields (not sure why given they just lay around all
day). Watch out for a season start probably mid September. Not sure
what is happening with Box Hill and Geelong. Maybe we'll find out,
maybe we won't. Such is the spice of life! I'm going to take a bit of
a break from these reports, assuming the VFDA Committee want me to
continue next season. (Personally I'm going for a 14% pay rise to cover
the expenses I incur: free range chickens don't grow on trees...)
Besides, I'm going to Broome this weekend and then to the US in
September: I'm going to be the celebrant at a gay wedding. Depending on
when the next season begins, I'll bid you adieu. I would welcome any
feedback you may have, and suggestions for future reports. If it helps,
you can use the handy survey form below.

Rockin',

Sam
