KANGAMOOSEThe next hot thing in ultimate is here! Kangamoose, Melbourne’s own junior ultimate team, made up of… Dave Spencer, Jake Angelovich, Mandy Fung, Crystal Cheung, Natalie Rae, Cath Phillips, Tegan Driscoll-Daley, Emily Zienow, Alistair Moroney, Lewis Broad, Lochie Wise, Jeremy Katz, Will Gates, Pat Carroll, and our own out-of-state resident, Ashley Button… as well as the awesome coaches Seb Barr, Andy Moroney, Nicky Smith, Mel Jackson and Susan Shortreed.
We came 3rd at Junior National Championships in Sydney this July, beating our rivals Church St in a tightly-fought and spirited game for bronze. We were really happy with our result and our coaches kept saying how amazed they were at our improvement from the beginning of the season. We have also played in a Ballarat Uni IV tournament in April, the State Youth Games in June, and State Junior Championships in Ballarat where we came first. Many of our members will be trying out for the Junior Australian team going to Canada in 2008. During this year's Australian National Championships, Kangamoose played in a youth exhibition game against our arch rival Church st, and it is hoped that this spirited rivalry will continue on into the future. Everyone is really excited about the upcoming tournaments and opportunities, and we are always looking for new additions to the team as well as opposition teams. Along with all these awesome events, Kangamoose meets up every Wednesday night at the Albert Park social league between 6:30 and 8:30 for a Juniors’ night organised by Nicky Smith. We welcome everyone to this weekly event so don’t be afraid to turn up and have a throw with us, and feel free to bring your friends as well. -David Spencer and Cat Phillips (Kangamoose Captains) |
