New to Ultimate

Ultimate is a fast and exciting team sport played with a flying disc - a Frisbee(tm). Games are played on a field roughly the same length as a soccer field, but a little narrower. The field has an endzone at each end, and points are scored by catching the disc in these areas. The team with the frisbee tries to pass the disc up the field to others on their team and catch it in the endzone. At the same time, the defensive team tries to intercept or knock down the disc. If they succeed, they get possession of the disc and try to score in the other endzone. Players can throw the disc from a few metres to the entire length of the field with great accuracy, so games involve a lot of skill, speed, athleticism and tactics.

Ultimate is non-contact but highly competitive. It is played in an extremely social environment, and holds sportsmanship in the highest regard.

New to Melbourne or Victoria

Melbourne is one of the world's most liveable cities. It's a cliche but it's true. Melbourne has a pleasant (if at times variable!) climate, a vibrant city life and access to an enourmous range of sports and outdoor activities. Victoria's attractions begin at turquoise beaches, finish atop snow-capped peaks, and encompass a range of climates from the semi-desert Mallee to the green pastures of Gippsland. The legacy of exploration, mining and farming is evident in Victoria's many historic towns. Major Victorian regional centres include Ballarat (with a thriving ultimate scene), Geelong and Bendigo.
