Heads of State - Youth |
|
|
|
Written by Matt Hill

Heads Of State is an Australian Ultimate club based in Melbourne, Victoria.
The club began in April 2006 with a group of young Victorians attending the Australian Youth Ultimate Championships in Sydney. They went through this tournament undefeated and consequently won themselves the title of National Champions.
In August that year they had 9 members represent Australia in Boston, USA, at the World Junior Ultimate Champationships.
In 2007, the club grew to include an open team which finished Runners Up at Southern Regionals and Seventh at the National Championships.
In 2008, the club sent both a mens and youth team to Southern Regionals. The mens team finished 1st and went on to finish 5th at the National Championships, whilst the youth team went on to defend their title at the Australian Youth Ultimate Championships.
Heads Of State are proud of the fact they are the only club in Australia to have both a youth and open division. HOS firmly belive that developing youth is the key to improving the level of Australian Ultimate and that more time and money should be spent in this area.

Juniors in Melbourne |

|
More and more juniors are playing Ultimate in Melbourne, with players rocking up every Wednesday to Juniors' Training in Albert Park at 7pm. Some are also training on Saturdays in Fawkner Park from 3pm onwards with the goal of playing in Junior Nationals in July. The Melbourne juniors' team, which is made up of 12 students from Bentleigh SC, PLC, De La Sal, and Koonung SC, is called Kangamoose and is looking forward to representing Melbourne at Junior Nationals and several competitions beforehand. Kangamoose is always looking to play teams from other areas and other schools, and is also interested in expanding the team in the future, so contact Nicky Smith if you are interested in playing. Ultimate is a sport that will keep you fit and provide you with the opportunity to meet a lot of new people and travel around Australia and overseas. The skills you need can be learned quickly, and skills from other sports, like netball and footy, will help you a lot. Above all it is a lot of fun, and most people who try it want to play more! If you can't come down on Wednesdays, but would like to have experienced players come to your school and teach your PE class or group of friends after school, contact Nicky and she can organise something ASAP. Click here for more information about upcoming juniors events and Wednesday night Juniors training. |
