Albert Park League Report (Week 12) |

Monday, 30 August 2010 |
In the spirit
of good reporting I ventured down to the fields on Monday night to
watch the finals. I then left it until Sunday to write a report.
I'll leave it up to you to decide whether this was due to some
perverse desire to send the reports on different days or
indicative of me huddling for warmth near the BBQ while not
running around, and therefore not remembering anything. Obviously
both, but here is what I do remember:

League Reminders |
|
|
|
Written by Chris Folkes
|
|
Thursday, 17 June 2010 |
Firstly, thanks to everyone that came down to pick-up on Monday night. We had enough players to form 6 teams and play three sets of three shortened games, which was great. The team captained by Rueben Berg ended up winning, closely beating the team captained by Kelli Martin/Sam Waugh. It was good to see a lot of new faces playing, and I'm sure some of these people are still looking for a league team to join!
Some reminders for the next week of league (Monday 21st June) and also some important information for those heading overseas for U23s/WUCC...

June 14th - No League (Queen's Birthday) |
|
|
|
Written by Chris Folkes
|
|
Monday, 14 June 2010 |
A final reminder for pick up tonight (Monday, June 14th) as there is no league tonight due it being the Queen's Birthday public holiday
1)
Please be there at by 7. I hope to form teams starting at 7 and getting
games underway as close to 7:15pm as possible. Depending on numbers you
will play 2/3 games.
2) Be prepared to classify yourselves into 4 categories:
- Beginners
(people who are playing ultimate for the first time or who don't have a
lot of experience at playing ultimate)
- Intermediate (players
who have been playing league/pick-up games/social leagues for a while
and who have a grasp of the game)
- Advanced (higher level players with a lot of experience who have
played lots of league and/or have played nationals)
- Elite
(worlds players)
3) Remember, bring a white and also a black shirt.
Pick up is free and open to all, you don't have to be registered on a league team to come down.
See
you tonight!

VFDA 2010 Annual General Meeting |
|
|
|
Written by Matt
|
|
Thursday, 27 May 2010 |
The VFDA's Annual General Meeting will be held at 8pm on Monday, June 21st at our Albert Park League Fields.
Dinner will be provided to all attendees.
This year we are encouraging all those who are interested in nominating for a position on the Committee to nominate themselves in advance. You may also wish to nominate someone else for a position - I encourage you to have a chat with them beforehand. Nominations should be sent to me via email (
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
). At this stage I believe there will be at least two positions vacant.
Arranging a nomination early will also enable the nominee to receive absentee votes from members who are unable to attend.
For Committee members, a minimum level of activity is regular discussion and decision making via email and online polls, plus attending Committee meetings that take place every 6 weeks.
If you are unable to attend the AGM in person, you can arrange to vote beforehand. To do this, you can email me your vote up until midnight Sunday, June 20th or give a written document to another member who can table it at the meeting itself for you.
The Agenda for the evening will be circulated shortly.
If you have any questions or concerns, as always please feel free to discuss them with myself or another member of the current Committee.

Albert Park League - Revised start date |
|
|
|
Written by Matt
|
|
Monday, 17 May 2010 |
Apologies
first off for the late notice but we have just been notified that there
has been an issue with the final connection of wires for the light
towers at our new league fields.
This has prompted City Power to
require another inspection be organised before the lights can be
switched on and we can use them for league.
At this stage we get
access to the fields on May 31st. As we've only just been made aware of
this new delay, it has yet to be decided whether we'll jump straight
into the league season or have a come and try night.
This also means we won't be able to hold our come and try evening tonight.
Apologies again,
Matt

The WFDF Ultimate Rules Committee has launched a new website to assist players in learning and understanding the Rules of Ultimate: http://www.wfdf.org/rules_ultimate.
The site contains a wealth of resources to help players self-referee as easily as possible, including; rule of the month, a basic version of the rules, various translations of the rules, decision diagrams, official interpretations and the all important rules quiz!!
I'd encourage everyone to check out the site.
It is hoped that this site will be the focus for all issues related to the WFDF Rules of Ultimate.

Albert Park Winter League - Div.2 & Div.3 |
|
|
|
Written by Matt
|
|
Tuesday, 11 May 2010 |
The registration page for Albert Park Winter League (Monday) is up - Click here to register (opens in a new window)
There are a few small details still to be worked out but until then please feel free to form teams and have them registered. Cost is yet to be finalised, we have a meeting with Parks Victoria this afternoon to learn a few more details about the synthetic fields.
We are also discussing several ideas into how we can protect teams from being decimated by players leaving for the month of July for Under-23s and WUCC but when forming teams this is something to keep in mind.
Another post with full details will be published this Friday, May 14th.
