Welcome to the Melbourne Hat 2009
Kings and Queens of Australian Ultimate
(take that any way you like...)
I would like to welcome you to the official site of this year's Melbourne Hat 'The Blackjack Hat'.
Let me start by saying that it is fantastic to see that so many people are interested in attending the Hat this year. Registrations for places have never filled up so fast and I think it is the first time in the history of the Hat (Sam, I'm sure you'll tell me if I'm incorrect) that the registrations have closed before the website has been launched.
You will find information to do with every aspect of the weekend on the website, if it is not here now please come back as it will be updated continuously.
For those of you that have not registered yet, there is a category on the registration page of the AFDA website http://www.afda.com/rego/showcompetition.php?competitionid=687 called 'Over 280 Cap Rego'. If you would like to play, please add your name to this list and as players drop out or do not pay, you will be given the chance to pay and play.
For the people that were lucky enough to get a spot in the 280 you only have until November 9th (2 weeks today) to pay for your spot. After this time I will only be taking the first 280 players to pay!!! Also keep in mind that the fee will jump to $120.00 on November 22nd.
As the weeks go by, please check this site for updates and any changes to any of the information you need. I will do my best to make sure the information is accurate and up to date.
I look forward to seeing you all in December.
John Hempel
21st Melbourne 'Blackjack' Hat TD
When and where:
The 21st Melbourne Hat (the Blackjack Hat) will be held at Albert Park on the 12th and 13th of December this year, with Disc Golf on the evening of the 11th of December.
What is the Melbourne Hat:
For those who don't know, the Melbourne Hat is one of the BEST tournaments to attend. Teams are pulled out of a 'hat' but are balanced so that there are a range of players from beginners just starting to play through to veterans that have played every Hat so far.
How much is the Hat and what do I get:
The Melbourne Hat will be $100 until November 22nd. It will then creep up to $120 until December 10th and will be $150 if you pay on the day.
Your $100 Blackjack Hat entry fee includes:
- Golf on Friday night
- 2 Days of Ultimate in Australia's Biggest Hat Tournament
- Breakfast both days
- Lunch baskets both days
- A HUGE Roast Dinner on Saturday
- Pizza during the final on Sunday
- Team t-shirt
- PARTY
- And lots of other little bits and pieces
How to register and pay:
Visit the registration page for more details.
This year we will be capping players at 280. It is advised that you register and pay ASAP to secure your place. YOUR PLACE IS NOT SECURE UNTIL WE RECEIVE YOUR PAYMENT!
Dietary requirements:
If you have allergies and therefore have special dietary requirements (aside from being vego or vegan), email Cath Matthews.
Billets:
If you wish to be billeted or can offer your house up for billeting, please contact Mel Gangemi.
Other accommodation information can be found on the Accommodation page.
Juniors:
Junior players are encouraged to play - however for safety reasons those under the age of 15 and wishing to play must have a guardian attend the event (not necessarily as a player) and MUST provide the following to John Hempel:
- Signed consent from a guardian (A letter from your parents/Guardian saying they are happy for you to play)
- Signed statement from a senior player that the junior player has played Ultimate before and has appropriate field sense to avoid injury
The party on Saturday night will be for over 18s only, so if you are under 18, email Matt Hill who is organising a juniors event for the Saturday night.
Volunteers:
If for some reason you can't play, but want to be involved contact John Hempel. If you have friends/partners/parents who want to help out, send John Hempel an email.
